'Sleep Problems in Later Life': a new module for Healthtalkonline

The official launch of the Module on 'Sleep Problems in Later Life' for Healthtalkonline, took place at King's College, London on Monday 9 November 2009. Guest speakers included Professor Anthea Tinker and a participant from Workpackage 2. Extracts from the module were shown and more than 40 people attended the event.

Workshop: Nightlife in Care Homes, Friday 9th July 2010, The Glenside Campus, Blackberry Hill (1H16)
University of the West of England, Bristol. This workshop aimed to bring our research to those whose daily work relates to older people living in care homes.  In particular, our delegates will include care home managers, Registered Nurses and care staff. British Science Festival

British Science Festival 5-10 September 2009, Guildford, Surrey. SomnIA hosted a very successful event at this festival called 'Sleep after 60: Changes and Challenges in Later Life'. More than 50 members of the public attended the event held in the centre of Guildford. The event consisted of talks by members of the SomnIA team and a guest speaker on topics such as Daytime Sleep, Sleeping Medication. Co-sleeping and Sleep in Ageing. Videos of older people who had taken part in data collection for workshop 2 were shown.

A one day workshop for care home managers was held on 1st July 2009.

SomnIA Presentations:

SomnIA has been strongly represented at a number of academic conferences, with up to six members presenting oral papers or posters at the following: International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, British Society of Gerontology, British Sleep Society, Gerontological Society of America, and European Sleep Research Society.

SomnIA has also been involved with a number of practitioner and user groups, in particular the Relatives and Residents' Association, the National Care Homes Congress and Age UK.
